Podcast Town! An Improv Workshop
Stage Door Theater
Saturday, October 26
10am-1pm
Podcasts are taking over the world, why not the improv stage as well?
In this workshop, you'll use the framework of the Harold structure (loosely). The Podcast Town form explores a town and it's community by creating 3 improvised podcasts, commercials, and scenes all intertwined. The form caters to playing fun characters, premises that grow into full scenes and focusing on call backs.
This is the signature form of the B.I.T Improv Comedy Podcast Network launched this summer.
Pirate Robot Ninja
Stage Door Theater
Saturday, October 26
2-5pm
Queen City Comedy is thrilled to present this workshop with Billy Merritt based on the book Pirate Robot Ninja: An Improv Fable! This class will help you take charge of your own journey.
-
Are you too analytical in your approach to improv? Robot.
-
Are you too impulsive in your approach to improv? Pirate.
-
What you want to be is balanced between the two. Ninja.

This class will help define where your approach comes from, how to strengthen that approach and then work on your perceived weaknesses.

Openings & Premise Performance Masterclass
Stage Door Theater
Sunday, October 27
10am-4pm
This Master Class follows the mantra "Suggestion is Opening, Opening Is Form".

Build the form as you go, recognize patterns, find new ways to explore suggestions. Learn multiple openings and forms, then learn how to plug and play different openings into different forms. Each opening you learn will have a different way to pull premise or character. Each form you learn will let you know what to do with premises and characters. If you (or your team) is looking for new ways to freshen up your long forms, this is the class for you!
After lunch, participants will pick an opening to create a show around. That form will be performed in the 8:00pm Sunday, October 27th show.

The Journey Improv Workshop
Stage Door Theater
Saturday, November 2
10am-1pm
Come along on The Journey! Leave your ego at the door and try a form that is focused solely on supporting each other. You remain on stage during the entire piece -- a giant game of follow the follower where no one is leading. Organic transformations, seamless transitions, patterns and callbacks--the ultimate in reacting moment to moment. It’s like a drug trip without the drugs. This will help you become a more agile and open improvisor. It’s hard to explain what it is--you just have to enjoy where it goes.
You’ll leave the workshop exhausted, a more agile performer, with a different way to look at improvising. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring water for hydration to this workshop.
Silent But Deadly! An Improv Workshop
Stage Door Theater
Saturday, November 2
2pm-5pm
Silence is Golden or Deadly!
In this 3 hour workshop, you'll learn to take the burden of words away in order to build tension and drive scenes forward. When you improvise without dialogue, you can say so much more. Play the moments in between the words and bring the lushness of the relationships to life.

This workshop is good for all levels of experience. Great workshop for actors and improvisers. Taught by Jay Sukow (He/Him) from California.
Help Me! A Feedback Masterclass
Stage Door Theater
Sunday, November 3
10am-3pm
This master class workshop offers personalized feedback and exercises aimed at elevating improvisors to the next level. It's about challenging yourself, addressing weaknesses while emphasizing strengths, to become a more well-rounded improvisor. You'll receive specific, personal feedback during and after scenes. We'll use targeted exercises to push you out of your comfort zone, providing tools you can use immediately to improve your improvising. Expect an honest assessment of your skills, with exercises focused on making you better and more confident.

For coaches and instructors, look at the Debrief Add-on for one more hour of learning from Jay Sukow (He/Him).
Debrief It! Coach Talk Back Session
Stage Door Theater
Sunday, November 3
3pm-4pm
After the Help Me workshop, sign up for an hour more of exploration. This debrief is for existing improv coaches or instructors or those who would like to step into that role.

This is designed for those who want to improve their skills as an improv teacher as well as for those interested in teaching. After the Help Me! Session, we'll discuss some of the reasons why I chose certain exercises and gave certain feedback. You'll have a chance to ask questions and hear not just from Jay, but thoughts from other folks in the room as well.
A great chance to add some tools into your teaching toolbelt from Jay Sukow (He/Him).
